A Little About Lane Baldwin

Off all the pieces I've ever written, this one page may well be the most uncomfortable to write, at least since that paper on Dante's "Inferno" back in my high school days. Be that as it may, here's a little bit about me.

And you may ask yourself: Well, how did I get here?
Once in a Lifetime, Talking Heads

I am a writer, musician, and business consultant, each of which is an important part of my life. As a musician, I've had the opportunity to entertain people around the world while cultivating my creativity and providing for myself by doing something I truly love. If you'd like to know more about my musical career, visit Lane on Bass. As my music career blossomed, I also began to consult to other musicians and bands, offering my insights into successful marketing, and writing copious amounts of marketing and PR material. This grew into a second, parallel career in consulting.

My third career, as a writer, grew from the first two. My first big break came when I Am a Bassist - the tale of how I learned the bass guitar - came to the attention of famed studio bassist Carol Kaye, with whom I'd studied fifteen years earlier. Ms. Kaye was kind enough to recommend the story to Ron Garrant, publisher and editor of Bassics Magazine. Ron ran the article virtually unedited.

Years later, A Gift of Spirit was published in Chicken Soup to Inspire the Body & Soul®. In 2009, I am hopeful that Learning Servant-Leadership from Native America - Again - will be published in an anthology of essays edited by friend and mentor Larry Spears.

I continue to write for newspapers, magazines and client businesses. I enjoy the work and get to meet many interesting people. Furthermore, helping business owners realize their dreams brings a wonderful sense of fulfillment.

But how does this all relate to this web site? Over the past fifteen years, my life has increasingly focused on the spiritual side of existence. I have come to believe that we are spiritual beings living in a material world, and that the focus of our lives should be on the spiritual side of life, not the material.

Since childhood, I have been exposed to numerous life ways, philosophies and religions. As I've grown older, I've seen that we have received the same basic message time and time again, but from different sources. Things that have occupied my thoughts, some since early childhood, have come into sharper focus. Quite naturally, my personal writing (songs, essays and poetry) has focused more on spirituality, following the overall shift in my life. In general, this writing tends to be positive; its purpose is to inspire, support and comfort, and perhaps to encourage others to live a more spiritual life. I began accepting speaking engagements with spiritual, religious and business organizations as a means of reaching a larger audience.

My goal is to write and speak on "living in harmony" - with others, with ourselves, and with the rest of creation. I am currently working on a book based on things my father taught me about living a fulfilling life and hope to begin shopping for a publisher next year.

I won't pretend I have the ultimate answers to the questions we all ask; nor will I pretend to be a model person - because I'm not. But I'd like to believe that I'm moving in the right direction. I'm learning, on an almost-daily basis, to be a better person, to become more attuned to the spiritual energy that drives this universe.

It's been a interesting road, to say the least. I often look back and am amazed at how lucky I am to have lived most of my life doing what I love. I hope that each reader will get something useful out of their visits here, and that my work may, in some small way, contribute to the realization of a better, more spiritually-focused world. May you live your life well, with love in your heart, and service to others on your mind. May you live each day focused on being the best possible version of you. In other words, may you live a life with Spirit!

In peace,

Lane Baldwin
